An open body of water makes you feel so insignificant and powerful all at the same time. There's something so serene and intoxicating watching the tide change. Time appears to be standing still, but you're watching it pass before your own eyes. The beach symbolizes time and memories. This barrier island is eroding and changes continuously. It seems the same, but after every tide, it is new. Some memories are ingrained in your brain; you can remember them so vividly. Others are a haze that you somewhat remember, but not quite sure about all the little details.
Hiroshi Sugimoto, Masao Yamamoto, and Tobia Makover inspired this series. I photographed the ocean at various locations and times of day on Tybee Island, Georgia. Theses images convey the diversity of memories. I manipulated the shutter speed to show how time is fleeting. This installation consists of 27 images on wooden panels in a variety of sizes from 5x5 to 12x16. There is a range of treatment for each image consisting of archival rice paper prints, archival digital prints treated with encaustic painting, or DASS art super sauce. I've repeated some images to show how we revisit specific memories and how they can change. Over time some memories fade away.
