What were your treasures as a child? Did you collect baseball cards, bugs, rocks, or maybe marbles? Growing up on the East coast in Savannah, Georgia, my little treasures were seashells and other items I found on the beach. Every time we went to the beach, I returned home with a handful to add to my collection. I still have my treasure collection in a coconut basket and continue to add to it.
I drew inspiration from Edward Weston and Albert Renger-Patzsch, who created some of the most captivating detail-oriented black and white images. I wanted to capture the intricate patterns in my little treasures. To the tiny crystals on the air plants, the unique designs of each shell, the perfect imperfections, and use dramatic lighting to highlight the beauty. These are 11x14 large format silver gelatin prints.
